This picture is of a supposedly large bamboo in my garden. It is contained in a concrete surround otherwise it would take over the property. The leaf shapes and stems are always interesting and remind me of the very tall giant bamboos we saw in Japan. I'm glad this one has not grown so large.
There is a large plot of giant bamboo about 200m from my house inbetween two Christian schools. Not sure who owns the land but it appears to be no mans...any way when I was looking for "ash deposits" I borrowed some of this bamboo. The great thing about this is it burns very well, with a hot yet long flame. The remaining ash tends to take moisture from the atmosphere. I have yet to try it out. But assume it is similar to other grasses.
