Pots by the Thorsby Potters

Some of the pots being loaded into the kiln at Thorsby and two quite large disc/platters that I thought were interesting.

Thorsby Park, Nottinghamshire

This lovely garden shed at Thorsby Park was built in keeping with the main stables buildings that show in the background.  There was also a large round brick building that is now used as a garden centre selling plants and shrubs.  The lower picture is of the wood fired kiln used by a group of local potters.  It is also in a brick building in keeping with the others at the park.

Chesterfield Again

The Chesterfield Market looked most interesting but we did not have time to explore.  I took the photo of the litter bin as an aid to remember the city name but found the logo to be quite ...... No! No! I won't say it.

Chesterfield, UK

During my visit to the UK I was taken to see something unique - it was this church spire at Chesterfield.  The story goes that when it was being built the devil flew over and the spire twisted to avoid being hit.  Another is that it was built with green timber and as it dried the spire warped into this shape. More likely is that it was built this way in the first place and the stories came later.

Pots by David Frith

These lovely pots by David Frith remind me a lot of some of the work I used to make.  Cutting a freshly thrown piece then gently filling it out before finishing the neck creates a wonderful form.  Slab bottles decorated as this one take considerable time and care.  This is a real beauty!

Some Pots

Two more pots from David's collection.  The cross handled wine jar is by Johnny Leach and has lovely glaze pouring or ash deposits.  The cut sided bottle with tenmoku glaze is by Mike Dodds.

Last Pictures of Lincoln

Having gone down the steep street to visit Lincoln city we had to climb back up again to reach the car park which was hard work.  The middle picture is one I missed before and is of the Cloisters of the Cathedral.  The wooden ceiling was just so wonderful.  And the last image is of a small part of the old city wall and the entrance gateway.
